Tyler J Borden
CELLIST
Hailed for his “technically polished playing” (Jan Jezioro, Artvoice) as well as his “astounding performances of superlatively difficult modernist solo works” (Edge of the Center), Tyler is a rising force in the contemporary music landscape.
Tyler is a member of the [Switch~ Ensemble], a group dedicated to the performance of works that incorporate multimedia elements into live performance. He is a co-founder and director of High Desert Soundings, an experimental music festival in Joshua Tree, CA. He was a member of the Mivos Quartet, a group distinguished by their vibrant interpretations of the works of contemporary composers. He recently left this group to pursue personal projects.
He is currently a doctoral candidate in Contemporary Music Performance at the University of California, San Diego. He works with composers frequently, improvises often, and composes occasionally.
