EXPERIMENTAL FILMMAKER

Leighton Pierce is an award-winning artist and teacher with experience across all modes of film, video, sound, and installation art. He has been a leader in academic institutions for many years. He was Program Director at the University of Iowa, Chair of Film/Video and Acting Dean of the School of Art and Design at Pratt Institute, and Dean of the School of Film/Video at CalArts, where he is now faculty in the Experimental Animation Program.

Leighton has received many fellowships including from the Guggenheim and Rockefeller Foundations. His work has been shown around the world at film festivals such as Sundance, Rotterdam, New York, Toronto, Cinema Du Rèel, and many others. In addition to video/sound projects, he is currently developing a publication project on embodied cognition and non-objective filmmaking.
